One of the projects in the works is a logo that could be placed on hardware products that are Ubuntu read (http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/2718/)y.
I've come up with my own version (made with GIMP or course!) and I'm posting it here for comment.

The red haze looks a bit cheesy. It might not get printed properly either :/

Looks good.

But isnt Ubuntu a trademark of Canonical?

I agree. I would remove the haze.

If you dont remove the haze, at least dont crop it off!

Looks good - great idea, but you should remove the "glow" and just add the checkmark (no effect). Also, if this is meant be be used for printing you should make a SVG file instead.

It is a trademark. I'm just offering it in appreciation should they want it. I also took out the sparkle effect in this new one. I tried it with the check on the bottom and I didn't like it.;

The image seems to have been croped so the bottom of the text is missing! My opinion is still that you should lose the drop shadow :)

Here's my version (svg, so it is resizable!).

The image you posted has a big black rectangle on the certified part in my browser!

Oops, a stray text field made its way into there. Here is a corrected version.

Ok, maybe something like this? I think the other one looks professional too, though.
