Hi I am a bit of a noob when it comes to inkscape(but have been using it and love it so far, much less expensive than Illustrator.)

I imported a .jpg image that I would like to tweak. I need to know how to do two things.

1. How can I erase part of this .jpg image?
2. How can I make this very simple .jpg image into a vector image? So I can resize without pixelation?

Thanks a bunch!

2: Solved:

I used this page to convert my .jpg image to vector with the trace tool.

http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Tools#Vectorize.2Ftrace

I installed Potrace then went to Path->trace bitmap

How can I see what layer an image is on?

Inkscape has a tool to trace the bitmap via Paths > Trace Bitmap. Layers are basic, but press control+shift+l for the layer pallate, which will allow you to do basic layer stuff.

Select the image > Shift+PgUp to move it to the layer above, or Shift+PgDn to move it to the layer below. See "Layer" menu for more.
