I am totaly new to linux. I am 2 days in, and learning pretty quick. (I guess all that Schooling paid off) My question is, I was looking around and saw desktops of other linux users that I like. How do you get them? ie: Transparent text documents, etc. example......

Well as far as transparent terminals you can change that in your own terminal settings. Open it, select Edit > Current Profile and you can change the effects (transparent, colors, etc).
Other options are using the System > Preferences > Themes for a different style & look. Also look into gdesklets for some cool desktop apps & effects. (to install that, if you haven't, check out www.ubuntuguide.org)

That's the beauty of Linux.. especially Gnome and KDE, because you can skin them. If you are running Gnome (by far the best :P), check out http://art.gnome.org for some really cool skins for gnome. When you download the packages, just drop them into your Theme manager or icon manager to use them.

Hi,
I have been using ubuntu for about four months. One thing I absolutely love about gnome are the gdesklets, download it using synaptic and add displays and sensors from http://gdesklets.gnomedesktop.org/
Gdesklets make your desktops look lovely and are also quite handy. They are also good to impress Windows users.
