Obviously Linux works great for a server OS (as well as a desktop OS)..

I was thinking about upgrading (by replacing) my homeserver. I currently run 7.04 (at least I think), and use the server for many different services (i.e. http, ftp, tftp, jabber, and I think I still have the capability for mail serving [although I don't use it])..

Me being the geek that I am (and being as bored as I am right now over spring break), I was wondering if there are any low requirement games to run on my linux homeserver (nothing really hardcore.. I dont want any FPSs or anything.. just light simple stuff [okay.. maybe something like the original DOOM or something would be okay]).

Do you guys know any games that I could host privately on my linux homeserver?

Teeworlds (previously Teewars) or Armagetron Advanced, perhaps? They are both pretty light and simple.

Unless the hardware is absolute crap, you should be able to host pretty much any small multiplayer game on the server. it doesn't take nearly as many resources to track the variables of a game session as it does to visually render the action.

on a Cel 1.5ghz proc, 512 worth of ram, and a 20 gig drive (which I consider to be a fairly crap machine) , you can host virtually any of the hostable games you can find here -- http://gaming.gwos.org -- on it.

Id say fairly, all of the FPS'ers that have hosting ability easily.
