Hi,

I am using Gimp 2.4.2 under Gutsy on Inspiron 5150 w/ Nvidia GeForce 5200 32MB graphics card.

I've been trying to make an image w/ its reflection embedded in it by having a gradient-filled layer-mask. This approach works on my desktop (old presario w/ Gutsy), but not on my inspiron. On the Inspiron, the image ends up looking like the attached.

Any suggestions? I am thinking that it may have something to do w/ graphics card? But I do have 3D acceleration enabled on both machines. Weird...

You need to add an alpha channel via Layer > Transparency > Add Alpha Channel, and then you can add transparency.

Thanks for replying.

I have added alpha transparency. In fact, I did manage to make it work on another machine. That's why I'm suspecting hardware issue...?

What are you saving the images as?

Thanks for replying.

I think I know where you're going w/ it. I understand the difference b/w jpg and png and so forth. I save these as either xcf (if I'm still working on it) or png. Please note that I know (barely) enough to make it work on another machine. For some reason, I cannot produce the same result on my laptop using EXACTLY the same procedures. Very weird indeed.
