What is the best audio player compatible with ubuntu gutsy 7.10?
I would like something that has codecs for popular formats like mp3 and wma. Any suggestions?

Exaile is by far the best for use with ubuntu. Amarok for KDE though.

The obvious answer to that question would be that there is no one player the best.

You just have to try out and find out for your self what you like.

P.S. i use Amarok.

I like mpd, with sonata as a client. A little tricky to get setup, but once it's running then it's great.

Codecs are a completely separate issue from the music player itself. Aside from that, there are many nice music players, and everyone tends to think their personal favorite is also the "best."

Best is a very broad term. At the end of the day, I'd take a few of the most suggested players from this discussion and others like it, try them out and see which fits your needs best.

My personal recommendation is Amarok.

I'd like to use Rhythmbox, because it's better for playing full albums than other player's I've tried, but I don't like this behaviour: https://bugs.launchpad.net/rhythmbox/+bug/38512

I use xmms2 with esperanza, does the job nicely for me and is lightweight, no complicated gui etc, but that's my taste.

There are valid reasons for exaile, amarok, listen, rhythmbox etc, just try them and see what you like best, all of them should meet your needs, it will just come down to personal choice...

I use MPD + Sonata. Really simple and clean interface. Just like I want it.
