View Full Version : [SOLVED] Debian barebones Xfce install: shutdown & restart greyed out

Just a quick question...I did a barebones install of Debian Etch, then added xorg, gdm, xfce, and synaptic. From there I installed just the apps I need. When I shut the computer down, the only option I have available is "log off". Shut down and restart are greyed out and unselectable. So when I shut down, I have to log off, then shut down from the login window.
Any ideas how I can get the shutdown and restart buttons activated?
Thanks in advance.

have you got xdm or gdm installed if not then i think you would have to shut down from a terminal

Thanks for the help. I will mark this thread as SOLVED. It's a long story, but I had to reinstall Windows on this machine, so I don't have Debian/Xfce on it anymore. There was some Windows software I need to use on this machine for a short period of time. I will reinstall Linux on it in a month or so and start over. The hard drive is too small (9GB) otherwise I'd dual-boot.
Thanks for your time.
