I've tried playing cs1.6 (steam version) through wine, and I can't say I'm impressed. Yes, the game insists that it is showing 72 fps, and I don't doubt it, but something makes it not running as smooth as it did in XP. BUT, if I install XP through VM Ware in Ubuntu, will it run as smooth as normal? Didn't find many threads on this forum abot cs 1.6 really.. So I would appreciate some help :)

Or better yet, is it possible to run CS 1.6 as smooth as in XP through wine with a script or something? Would save me for a lot of trouble.

Specs:
- Ubuntu 7.10
- AMD Athlon 64 3700+
- nVidia gf7600gt

Guess that's all. Thanks!

Probably not.

While admireable it is, the 3d Acceleration thats offered in Vmware products (and under certainty I believe that its only offered in Vmware Workstation product) is experimental by fact. As such it would be hard to pull this off, much as it would be nice to do so, with VMware player.

It probably won't even work in vmware player. Virtual machines aren't good for gaming at all, unless you're into solitaire and things like that.

Do you use OpenGL instead of Direct3D ?
Do you increase the priority of the process ? (try nice -20 wine <THE CS 1.6 EXE> )
