Hello, I have used the ubuntu live CD I really liked it. I am downloading the Kubuntu live CD to give it a try. In my past experience with linux I've used KDE most of the time.
I was wondering if ubuntu could have both gnome and KDE.
The FAQ at kubuntu (http://www.kubuntu.org/faq.php) says that if u have ubuntu and u want it to be like kubuntu, u need to install KDE and remove gnome, is it nessesary to remove gnome? will there be a conflict if it isn't removed?
All right, thanks in advanced.

I installed using Ubuntu cd and have both Gnome and Kubuntu as win managers and they do work. Unfortunatly you will have problems with gnome in that Kde trash and home icons will show up as links, some desktop icons such as firefox might show up huge in gnome and you might have to have Gnome versions of programs such as office but not shure on that as I had them installed already. There are certan other things like Gnome apps loooking like crap in KDE but there are fixes for that in synaptic.

I tried it and it worked fine for me. I had to just pick the session I wanted at the login screen.
I found I didn't want to keep KDE, and had to learn how to use aptitude to clean things up after.
I ended up with an artifact, a Debian menu under my Gnome Applications menu. Turns out I like it there -- some of the programs I didn't have a menu for showed up under that one.
Since it looks like you're doing a new install, why not try out several different desktop environments and see what you like and don't like? Then do a clean install afterwards using just what you decide.
For me it's a tossup between Gnome and XFCE. If the Ubuntu folks put more attention into the XFCE environment, I think that would rule. But I like the work they've done making Gnome look good and work well.

yeah, I mean, I love the way gnome looks in this one, looks very smooth. But I am more used to KDE, I guess, I have to try out both. See how they are.
