I have an ATI X1300 installed with the "Restricted Drivers" option under System->Administration->Restricted Drivers Manager. Compiz and all my desktop effects work fine, but when I try to run games like Tremulous or Urban Terror extreme glitches occur. Here is an example:

All text is unreadable, and the graphics are glitched. OpenGL screen savers don't seem to have this corruption however. Any Ideas? I'm more than happy to provide any more info. Thanks!

Edit: It appears I actually have an ATI X1300, My Device info led me astray.

Sorry for this, but I think after a day with zero replies a bump is in order.

A few updates...

I tried disabling compiz, no change in the display. I tried second-life as well to see if it was just the two games which I've tried to install and this is what I got

A slightly better result, however the game moves painstakingly slow, which I don't think is normal. The box with text also takes ages to "fix" it's resolution, it starts out fuzzy and then becomes crisp but this process takes about a minute.

I've considered manually installing the ATI drivers, but I'm not sure what this would accomplish. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Edit: I forgot to mention, I tried the envy installer, but when I rebooted my computer my games crashed immediately after launch, so I abandoned that route.

ati drivers cause some flicker here only when doing screensaver or windowed applications like games or video, if I do them fullscreen the issue is not present, it's better with the latest drivers but it's not totally gone.

ati drivers just need to be better.
