I agree - a nice change. I'm not sure who did it but, as far as I know, it was first posted on the Artwork wiki pages several months ago.

There's even a .svg - so we get to play with it in Inkscape. Goody!

Here's a voice of disagreement. The stylized heron wallpaper is disturbing, lacks balance, and should be replaced by something more soothing for the final release.

Pausanias, I couldn't have said it better myself!

There was a wallpaper added with the same background but minus the Heron. The new wallpaper would be more appropriate for the default and the one with the Heron could still be included for the people that do like it.

I disagree with you two. The herron adds a nice touch to the wallpaper that Ubuntu hasn't dared get close to. The wallpaper included which lacks the herron just seems a little too similar (as in too minimal) to what the past wallpapers were like.

The plain theme may work well. Or if you want something fancy, Dawn of Ubuntu has by far been my favorite detailed wallpaper (and I think it was a poor decision to remove it).

I heartily suggest they bring back Dawn of Ubuntu.

I love the wallpaper but I agree with Pausanias. This isn't the type of background that a major OS should release with. It would be outside of the box, but maybe too much so.

I like it, seems kinda funky and fits the Ubuntu vibe, however I can see how it may be too "busy".

I think it looks simply excellent. Its not boring at all, and at the same time it looks professional and not too fancy

I personally didn't like it. Of course I rarely use default wallpapers for anything...

I still like it. Here's my homage to it.

I don't agree at all. The heron wallpaper is a beautiful piece of art and it is perfect for Ubuntu 8.04. I really love what the artteam has done with the BETA and I hope the final release will include all their fine work.

Tux Aubrey --> All though I don't really like the background - that image is so funny! =D>

I like this wallpaper.

But I suggest tuning the color strength on the bird just a little, to improve long term user comfort. What do you think?

I posted an idea for this on the Ubuntu Brainstorm site (http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/5868/)

Is the toolbar on the bottom of the screen like the Mac's have on 8.04 by default?

A recent update to the Hardy theme added a variation of the wallpaper sans the Heron. It is equally beautiful.

I just don't find any relation between both the artist... could just e a bit more clear?
