No from repository, download file from
ftp://ftp.idsoftware.com/idstuff/quake3/linux/linuxq3apoint-1.32b-3.x86.run
install it and then copy pak0.pk3 from cd to quake's baseq3 directory.

i actually recommend that people not use quake3 for linux.
after id released the q3 source code, development continued under the project name ioquake3.
ioquake3 is simply q3 with continued development just like id would do if they were still developing it. it has so many more bug fixes & what not. its great. it does require compiling, i do it from svn, but its easy.
btw, ioquake3 does require the original q3 pak0.pk3 file though.

Thanks. I guess i'm going to have to learn how to compile. I wish my linux computer could handle quake wars enemy territory.

its quite easy to compile. just make sure you have the appropriate packages installed. (such as build-essential). just read the ioquake3 compilation instructions on the ioquake3 website.
