Hi,
I have pgn zip files for Short and Kasparov games.
What chess program can I watch them in?
I tried Xboard but I cannot figure out how ro view pgn zip files.
Any ideas?

Unzip the file first, then you'll be able to use xboard to view the games. I don't have ubuntu, I guess you can unzip it by right-clicking on the file and choosing "extract" or something similar.

I extracted pgn file but the interface in XBoard is very user unfriendly, it doesn't allow me to browse for the pgn file.

There's another chess program called "eboard", I'm sure it's in the repositories. Try it out, it may be more user friendly. To load the pgn, go to the menu Windows->Games on Client->Load Pgn

eboard is a good choice as it allows you to connect to FICS. (http://www.freechess.org/)
I would personnaly recommend pychess, which is better looking, reads PGN and others, and allows local or remote games. You can find a recent package here: http://www.getdeb.net/search.php?keywords=pychess
