Hi,
I'm familiar with changing themes and start menu settings, etc. but was wondering is it possible to completely create a new look, not from a pre-existing theme.
I'm trying a few different desktop environments: simplymepis, ubuntu, edubuntu, pclinuxos.... and would like to change the appearance right from the start when the computer starts up, so instead of giving me one of the chosen desktops, it launches a picture for example with a few of my own icons placed over it to launch some frequently used applications, and then an icon maybe to load a standard desktop with start menu etc...
How would that be possible ? I'm not afraid of experimenting and tweaking and have a fair understanding of unix and some scripting, hoping to get some pointers in the right direction...
Thanks a lot
uzee

Yeah... i did most of those things...

Check out the /usr/share/themes

See how there are done.. try changing some of the icons... with your own..
with those sizes....

I think that might help....( but takes time...:))

Also for changing the starting splash screen... u can use the splash screen manager....(not pre installed..)

Even the boot up ubuntu screen can be changed.... i suggest www.gnome-look.org as a best place to start with...

Hope that helps....
