Hi the game is Enemy territory.

I am get what could be described as constant lag spikes which freeze the screen even when i'm in say the menu screen or hosting my own game... The spike lasts around 0.2 sec or so then its ok for maybe 3-5 secs then spike again, which obvioulsy makes it totally unplable. This is constant never goes away, unless i pull out the modem cable then all is fine, when in menu screen or hosting game. I had been running ET on Linux for months but just reinsalled linux and hence ET and now this.... I have updated punkbuster via pbsetup.run and pointed pbsetup to /home/and/enemy-territory/pb and all seemed to go fine there....

I tried the linux Q III demo as well and exactly the same thing, again both in menu screen and playing.....

It must either be a pb, network card, modem or ISP problem..... though looking like pb or ISP (guess)...

My general internet connection is perfect no problems with like watching youtube or surfing etc....

Any ideas, does this sound like a pb problem....?

I know pb has to connect to the master server or whatever every now and then and could be where these spikes are coming from, but i wouldn't have thought that it connects as often as i get this spikes... and why after i reistall linux i am getting this....?

I have a good 2mb connection and good ping for most servers i am trying to play on but this is irrelavant as i get this problem when just in the menu screen.

Its not impossible that my ISP are messing about with something(if possible) as i play a lot and maybe am using too much bandwidth(just a wild guess)

Any ideas?

TIA

although there's similar proggys you may want to check out gkrellm,, after it's installed and running,, fire up one of your games in windowed mode and keep your eye on gkrellm.. if you want to get ugly you could always use:

tcpdump host {the_server_the_game_is_connected_to}
