Hi,

I am a complete newbie to linux.

I'm running Gutsy and the linux version of neverwinter nights. The game will freeze at seemingly random times, not at times of high activity or graphically intense scenes. I can't ctrl-alt-f2 and kill the process. I have tried re-installing, and turning down all the video settings.

I have an ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility X1400. I have read that ATI cards are garbage for ubuntu due to lack of good drivers.

I've attached my xorg.conf , nwn startup file , and my /var/log/kernel.log from after the crash.

If anybody can offer me some advice I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks!
-Todd

Are you running compiz-fusion (aka. visual effects)? those will often kill a game. also, try downloading the nwn override from this website

http://www.trustinginthefuture.com/3towns/downloads.asp

it's called the NwN Original Animations override (crash fix) and it's around two thirds of the way down. It reverts back to the animations from the original NwN and makes the game much more stable, albiet the cloaks will look like crap, but you get used to it, and the performance boost is worth it.

just download it, unzip it, and put it in your ../nwn/override directory (wherever you put it)

that's all i can suggest.

seems to be happening a lot less now. It froze once after I did this, but i've been able to play for an hour with no problems so I'll assume its fixed.

Thanks!
