Hi all,

I have had ubuntu installed on my machine for about 4 months now and really getting on with it well. Im using it as part of my experimental machine that im using as part of my 3rd year uni project. One of my demos it required me to take my machine to the lab and demo my progress.

However, after i plugged in the machine in the lab, i noticed that the performance in only opening applications, folders and the terminal was very much reduced. The CPU seems to sit idle for about 10-15 seconds and then all of a sudden the system kicks into life and sure enough the window opens.

My machine is pretty high spec and was previously lightening quick as its essentailly a gaming machine underneath. (8800GTX, Abit Fata1ty FP-IN9 mobo etc etc).

Just wondering have i activated a setting by accident? Im not a linux expert by anymeans but im reasonably competent. I cant seem to diagnose the issue. As i said it was working fine before i moved the computer and now i get this sluggish and delayed performance. its just really annoying!

Any suggestions would be greatly recieved.

shockingly ive worked out what is wrong. It was the network settings. I have my own home network at my uni address and then when i plugged my machine into the uni network ports, it has tried to reconfigure my wired network settings.

I have disabled my wired network settings and all seems to be restored....

weird i know!

im sure when i plug back into my home network and re enable the network settings all will be fine.

just thought i better add this incase anyone else had the same problem as me.

Thanks and sorry for the now pointless thread! :P

You can mark this solved by clicking on the thread tool at the top of this thread and marking it solved. That may save some reading for some people. :) I just learned this trick a few weeks ago.
