Hi chazn85... I'm having an issue with Songbird too... In my case, i can play songs, but when I close and reopen songbird, I get no sound.. only the word 'error' in the now playing window... i can fix it by first playing part of a song in exaile, then closing it and starting songbird... It's kind of whacked but songbird is almost alpha s/w..

Have you enabled the Multiverse repos and installed gstreamer-bad-multiverse and gstreamer-ugly-mulitiverse and while you're at it installed gstreamer-ugly and gstreamer-bad for good measure?

Can you play mp3 files on a different media player like rhythmbox or exaile?
I guess if you can play mp3s on the other media player, then songbird should also work..

good luck!
