Way back in the days of Dapper, Canonical created what was then dubbed the Canonical Commercial Repository. Back then, a few items existed, such as SugarCRM and Opera. Some have been updated and/or migrated along the way to edgy/feisty/et al (opera), others have not. (sugarcrm), and some new applications have also made their way in. (parallels)
As of Gutsy, the Commercial Repository was renamed to the Partner Repository (PR), as not all software that enters there will be commercial/closed-source/non-free. (though much will)
At my request, the forum council here was kind enough to create this forum to provide users of Ubuntu who have downloaded packages from the PR a place to:
1.) Leave comments concerning packages in the PR
2.) Discuss features of applications provided through the PR
3.) Make requests for new/updated packages in the PR
4.) Seek support from other users if running into difficulties with packages downloaded from the PR
What this forum does NOT provide and is not intended for:
1.) Canonical doesn't provide technical support for packages provided in the PR; support for these packages is according to the terms offered by the partner providing the application. However, Canonical does support the actual packaging of the packages in the PR. For instance, if you downloaded Parallels and it does not launch, the kernel modules do not load, or some other fundamental issue is discovered related to the actual packaging itself, please file a bug in launchpad, but do not post here as it may not receive the attention it deserves.
2.) Please do not make posts about third party software NOT contained in the PR. (other than to request it, if you'd like to see it there.)
If you have any other questions concerning the policy on this forum, feel free to respond to this thread and I will do my best to answer them. I will be monitoring this forum most every day.
