Hi, I believe this will be a simple problem to sort! When I have any application open e.g. Firefox I don't see anyway of reducing the application to the taskbar. I have to go to the bottom of the screen and open the properties and click on ' minimize' to reduce it. I used to see the icons at the top to minimise and maximise but they aren't there now. I would be grateful for any help:confused:

Are you using Emerald?
Do you have window decorations at all? Titlebar with window name, and other buttons like close and maximise.

Hi I installed emerald and re-booted but this made no difference:( If for e.g. I have a word document open I have to go to the bottom of the screen where the name will be in a box on the panel, I then have to right click on it and select minimise. I would like the the mini and maxi icons showing at the top to do this but where are they?

I'm willing to bet your not running any window decorator. Try running metacity from a terminal and seeing the output. It should start upon logon, unless you've installed emerald. in that case, try running emerald from a terminal.
Good Luck!

Hi Russo,
I'll try that - because I'm a newby could you give me the command line or just install it from a repositary?
