View Full Version : Lost metacity - put it in "sessions" now taking 12%CPU

Hi all,

got an old machine (pre 2000) I put GG on. Been messing, and had an issue where it wouldn't install because of the ATI video card. I used dpkg-reconfigre xserver.xorg, and set it to be "VESA" and it was working OK.

Then, I did something, without realising it, and lost the window decorator, which I presume is metacity. I messed around with gconf, but couldn't seem to get it back. In the end, I went to "sessions" and set it to load metacity as a session application.

Now my machine is running dog slow, and running top, it seems the process "metacity" is taking around 12% CPU.

Can anyone answer
1) is metacity the correct (default) window decorator
2) how did I lose it
3) how should it be re-enabled ... I'm sure the 12% thing is because I've done something wrong .....

Thanks in advance
