internet doesn't work on host but works on guest

when I last rebooted and then launched my XP VM on gutsy the internet still worked on the VM but is not working on the host. any idea what is happening or what needs to be done to fix this?

this seems to only be the case when I have the xp VM running

You have the vm set to NAT for the Ethernet connection, shared with the host?

i believe the NAT is shared yes, but earlier I was not having this problem to my knowledge also my bridged connection to vbox0 always comes up limited or no connectivity

You are running both VBox and VMware at the same time?

no I wasn't, I don't know what the problem was but I don't have it anymore
