Hi there,

My lovely daughter shoved three CDs into the CD slot of her G3 iMac, so I took off the bottom of the case, removed the drives caddy and pulled the disks out, put it all back together and now the monitor is dead, it was working just fine when I found the CDs stuck in the drive.

It makes the chime noise when I switch on, but does not get as far as the drum sound of the login screen, I have tried resetting pram and booting from the CD, but the monitor shows nothing, it doesn't start up and then go down, it just does nothing

Can anyone help?

Just from the sound of it, it sounds like you unplugged an internal cable in the iMac while working with the CD-ROM drive. It doesn't sound like a software or configuration issue. I've had cables come loose while just moving computers around. I don't know the exact internal layout of the G3 iMac but there has to be a video signal cable of some kind in there.

I kind of wondered about that myself - anyway I took the bottom off again and gave all the obvious conectors a jiggle - and the monitor is back on again now - WHEW !!
