SInce I had 7.1 up and running fine I had to try 8.04. I have a J2F7 mobo (via cn700) and need viaXVMC to get anything meaningful out of it. viaXMVC does not get detected, however, In the frontend log the following may be read:

2008-03-08 04:01:41.910 AFD Error: Could not find decoder for codec (MPEG2VIDEO_XVMC_VLD), ignoring.

This is what I think. There have been a name change by openchrome from libviaxvmc... to libchormexvmc.. Perhaps this may be the root of the problem, but my Linux capabilities are far from figuring it out. Any thoughts?

Well indeed the build logs indicate the absence of this support. Please file a bug on the mythtv package in ubuntu and we can see if we can get it solved.
