hi everyone, i am a noob to this forum and linux too.
i am afraid i am gonna do what noobs normally do, first post, first silly question.
anyway,
i have two intel macs, i installed ubuntu 7.10 x86 on them using vmware fusion 1.1.1.
when i finished installation i went to install the vmware tools. after i clicked install, a cdrom appeared in the desktop, i opened it, hoping to find two files, .gz and .rpm. Well, i didnt find them. what i found is this.
http://up.phroon.com/file4/vmware512.jpg

this does not help me.
on one of them, i went on messing up, opened this and closed that, finally, somehow, i ended up with a window with the two files in it.
i cant do this again for the second mac.
so
does this look normal?
how can i find the .gz image to install the tools?
thanks.

does this seem very strange that none is able to suggest a solution?
as a solution, maybe someone can upload me their .gz file
1.1.1 (72441)
it was a mistake that i deleted it form the other machine.

I hope you've found the solution to your problem by now. I was searching for a solution to the exact same problem when i figured it out myself.
If you still have the vmwaretools cd mounted then "Cancel vmware tools installation" (the same button you pushed to start it)
After this you'll probably notice you have another cd mounted, eject this cd and click "Install vmware tools" again.

This worked for me and i signed up on this forum to reply for you. Good luck.
