Could someone please be kind enough to tell me how to get povray ?
I didn't see it in the Synaptic packages list even when adding the universe repository.
Do I have to download the source from the povray website ?
On the other hand I was pleased to find blender in the Synaptic packages list.

Povray is in multiverse. Enable multiverse just like you did with universe.

THanks a lot for the quick reply UbuWu.
Just curious: why is povray on a ( as I call it ) a "hidden repository" ?
I see the point to have some MP3 or codecs packages "hidden" but why povray ?

There are five different parts of the official repositories:
Main: officially supported software
Universe: the rest
Restricted: drivers etc. that are not open source or have restricted licenses
Multiverse: programs that are not open source or have restricted licenses
Backports: newer versions of programs backported from the development release
Only main is enabled by default.

I added the universe repository the 1st day I installed Ubuntu just by following the instructions as provided by the FAQ on the Ubuntu wiki
I thent tried to edit my /etc/apt/sources.list manually for the multiverse and backports repositories but it didn't work ( a lot of errors )
Then 5 minutes ago I fired Synaptic ,used the option settings->repositories->Add
and just check the Multiverse mark and ... voila, I now have Povray installed.
Thanks again
