In terms of performance, initial setup, maintenance and support, Which is better:

Running Windows software with WINE on Linux?
Running Max software with MOL on Linux?

I'm most concerned about playing games on my computer and I know that some of my favorite games also come out for Mac OS X. I've tried games like Sims 2 through emulation and WINE but the poor performance forces me to have a dual boot computer. Would it be better to install MOL and install Sims 2 on MOL?

Unless there have been major updates lately, last I checked Mac-on-Linux doesn't support x86, so if you have an intel chip, thats out. Also, I it doesn't support 3D acceleration, and its video driver is way slow.

Yeah I was reading through the docs this weekend and unless you actually own a Mac you can't use MOL. So I guess I will have to look for a different solution.

Getting back to my original question though:
Is it better to run a Windows program on Wine or a Mac program on a Mac translation layer (other than MOL)?

As there are none... I would say stick to Wine. I would of course love Mac application layer, but I don't see there being enough interest to start an organization with as much drive and coding power as Wine. There are very little major things (large games, very good programs) that work for MacOS, and not Windows, so simply, wine is always a better bet for compatibility anyway. The only things you will see solely on mac (for the most part, no flames) are OS specific productivity apps, and little things that we have similar or identical to on every major platform anyway.
