Hey. I recently installed the Quake 2 Demo from LIFLG, not the repositories. When my friend gave me his copy earlier this week, I copied all the needed files from my windows installation of Quake 2 into the demo files places. I ran the game, and it was working great, but it had no sound. This happened earlier, in fact it only had sound the first time I ran it right after the install.

So, I found you can have spiffy OpenGL effects, so I maxed out all settings at set resolution to 1280x1024. This ran great.

Until one time it ran with sound, the ENTIRE application lagged horribly. No matter what settings I set it to (X11, SDL, OpenGL) it always lagged morbidly with the sound playing. I eventually tryed it over and got no sound.

Now, I want to know why it is so choppy with the sound on. I have an nVidia 6600 with 256 MB DDR RAM on it, which I have been having problems with in the past. However, I got a new heatsink on it and I have been having not as many problems. What could be causing the sound to make the game run this horribly?

thanks to anyone who replies.
