Would it be possible to update the gedit package to 2.12.1? The version in the repositories is 2.10.2.

I don't think so, Gedit 2.10 goes with GNOME 2.10 which is in Hoary. Gedit 2.12 is for GNOME 2.12. Besides, is there something special in Gedit 2.12 that Gedit 2.10 has?

It's simple enough to compile for yourself, just grab any files it needs make sure you have all the proper *-dev files for gnome, very simple.
