sdlmame/kxmame really choppy

I have installed kxmame and sdlmame and botha re working ecept very choppy video and sound. It was deathly slow until I changed autoframeskip parameter (under CORE PERFORMANCE OPTIONS) to 1. as stated in another post. I am running Xubuntu on a 1.7g, 512ram and intel integrated chip. This setup ran flawless under M$98 with wahcade. Any ideas?

OK so I just installed Advancemame and Advancemenu and they work perfectly. The only bad thing is that they stopped updating it at 106 :( So I am still looking for a SDLmame fix if anyone has one for me.

stick with kxmame & sdlmame. try disabling throttling.
