On windows I use this scraper to generate free xmltv from the msn tv guide. http://planetreplay.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=14314

What do you use with mythbuntu?

xmltv has a DIRECTV grabber that I tested and works

The grabber is tv_grab_na_dtv

If you have DIRECTV great. Otherwise, you can just use the local channels (and I presume look for other correlations between your channels and the ones provided by DIRECTV).
