Hey! I want to make server for my music and movie files and I have an old PC for that purpose which has bretty old Bios and it didn't handle my 360 GB IDE HD as highest size of HD that I can have with that BIOS was 120 GB or something like that so I thought that I have to update that BIOS but the problem is that Amibios doesn't have any updates for that Bios (here is update page for my BIOS (http://www.ami.com/support/productsubmit.cfm)). The question now is what should I do can I somehow still make my 320 GB HD work with that BIOS or what should I do to overcome the problem? :-k

If youre BIOS doesnt support it and you cant find a work around on the net, then you're probably SOL. Mobo's are cheap nowadays and come package with processors sometimes. Go spend $75 and get a new one.

If you can afford the time, I'd try it. Sometimes Linux can handle bigger drives than the BIOS.

I don't know if it could help you. There is nothing to lose by checking it out.
Maybe you can install Open Source Bios such as CoreBoot (http://www.coreboot.org/Welcome_to_coreboot) and OpenBIOS (http://openbios.info/Welcome_to_OpenBIOS)?

Check out their websites.

It's been a while, but isn't the BIOS limit simply a limit of partition sizes? I recall getting around the 4GB limit of 16-bit OSes by partitioning the hard drive into multiple 4GB partitions. But like I said, it's been a while and my memory is a little fuzzy.
