help me!! radeon 9550 and compiz

i have a very annoying problem i cannot get the system to recognise my graphics card
connect 3d radeon 9550 256mb over clocked to 400mhz
i have tried various different how to`s on the net and have download two different types of drivers
i am dying to try the new compiz functions
the rest of my computer is ample to run compiz let me know if you need to know any more about my system

First of all which version of ubuntu are you using?\

also maybe there is a restricted driver for you graphics card.

im using gutsy gibon and it wouldnt even allow me to access the installer i would run it and it would just flash up for a second also i cannot connect to the internet thanks
