After two months of searching for another distro, I discovered Ubuntu Ultimate Edition one night last week, and I must say that I like it. One of the first things I tried was a plain-vanilla Ubuntu install, and all was well there until I tried to play a couple of radio stations that stream over the Internet, and nothing I did seemed to get either of them to play. I tried Mint for a while, although I had some issues with it, too but lived with it until I found Ubuntu Ultimate.

Functionally, Ubuntu Ultimate is just about darn near perfect. However, there's one thing the creators of the Ultimate Edition did that I wish they woulda left alone, and that's their choice of a default usplash theme at bootup that I do not like at all. I've been looking high and low on here trying to find just the default stock Ubuntu splash theme. You know the one -- it's the one with the Ubuntu logo and name on a black background with the orange bootup progress bar. In Synaptic, I can find ones for Edubuntu, Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Gobuntu, etc. -- but not for Ubuntu itself! How does one correct this?

Thanx in advance,
Fred in St. Louis, MO USA

Install the package "startupmanager". You can change the grub screens there. If you don't have the default ubuntu splash screen, and from looking at startup-manager here, install the package "usplash-theme-ubuntu" - maybe just by installing it first you solve your problem, try it.
