I was wondering if there was any way to set a webpage(html file) as my desktop background?(I'm using gnome)

Bump. Also, I'd like to get <http://www.die.net/earth/?zoom=1> on my background and update every 3 hours with the webpage. That possible?

Don't know about the webpage background, but you can try the program "xearth". It replaces the wallpaper with a rotating Earth (but not from real-time pics, so no clouds).
EDIT: I guess it is possible to write a script that periodically downloads the pic from that webpage and sets it as desktop background.

Thanks but you're right, it's not the same thing and I'm in love with those maps that show the sunlight. I don't know, call it a fetish but I can remember the first one I saw in an airport and I just stared at it for like an hour.
