Well, i would like to watch Youtube videos on PSP but that doesnt work since the flash on PSP is too low, (or youtube is too high depends on how you see it) so i went googling for it and i found someone telling about dailymotion.com, but thta didnt work either, so i looked on youtube, i found out you need firmware (whats that?) and you need something called PSP Tube. Can someone please answer my questions.
- what is firmware?
- How do i get it?
- where do i get Psp tube?
- do i need firmware for PSP tube?
Thanks loads.:guitar::lolflag::popcorn:

- what is firmware? = What runs your psp.
- How do i get it? = You already have it. Although to use psptube you will need to download a custom firmware from the internet.
- where do i get Psp tube? = http://www.qj.net/PSPTube-20080211-youKU-added-Daily-Motion-fixed/pg/49/aid/113466
- do i need firmware for PSP tube? = Yes. You need firmware to run your psp too :)
I'm guessing you are using the latest patch (firmware) from sony. So you will have to use something called the pandoras battery to downgrade your psp. And then you need to upgrade to a custom firmware.
To get a pandoras battery you either need to find a spare battery and a spare memory stick on atleast 256 mb i think. And then you will need somebody who already has a custom firmware to make it for you.
The second option is to find somebody who does that to your psp for a fee.
The second option is better because those guys usually know what their doing.
Correct me if i'm wrong :D

Then you should be asking in a PSP centered community as this neither pertains to Ubuntu nor gaming. The second link I posted tells you pretty much everything you need to know. If you don't know what the firmware is, I wouldn't even try this. You're likely to muck something up and brick your PSP.

Yeah running homebrew on your PSP is more of a risk than the homebrew fans tell you. It's not worth it. Better to be safe than sorry. :)

It isn't a risk if you know exactly what you're doing, in PSP a homebrew safeness will depend on how well coded it is (we could tell this if it works hehe (no kidding)).
@ thread starter: I recommend you first going and learning all there is to be on PSP like what this means and what that means and so on.
After you learn some stuff then think if thats what you want, of course like that you would be able to do more stuff than with an original software but if you don't want to just run around going crazy (like i bet you are right now hehe) i recommend you looking for someone who knows about this or has done it alredy and can help and orientate you on the way (no im not saying me, im a REALLY lazy stud), i got someone to explain me how to do it and i did made it, as someone said you will need the spare battery and one 512MB memory stick pro duo.
After getting a custom firmware you will have a lot of windows wide open in your PSP *** reference to illegal acitivity removed by staff *** like watch movies without having to go crazy that much (wewt! thats what i use mine mostly for) or a lot of more stuff (did i mentioned theres an iPhone emulator for PSP now? its called iPSPhone and it BLOWS). Also with it you might be able to get Skype on your PSP so with the head ware you can make phone calls from your PSP, Cool huh?
Now you may be asking why if its so cool everyone doesn't has it like that?
Well, thats an easy question. As cool as it is as risky it goes, so thats why im going to say one more time to look for someone that does it for a fee since its safer like that and you will waste WAY LESS TIME than trying to do it yourself if your an starter in this customizing thing.
Now im of, toodles and good luck, look for a PSP oriented forum thats more helpful that in here (not saying that we aren't hehe but you get the point)

As explained custom psp firmwares have many advantages like being able to run games on your memory card rather than on your UMD which decrease the loading time and increase your battery life a lot. Then you can run tones of home made programs.
As long as you are informed and know what you do the risk is acceptable and there's almost always a way to rescue your psp, but never try to customize your PSP if you don't know exactly what you are doing or you may have bad surprise.

All I'm going to say is I don't support homebrew on PSP's and never will.
I got into alot of arguments about this on another forum site so I'll say no more. :)
Bascally I disagree with using it.

Except some really useful homebrews, a good part of them are not necessary or don't bring any additional value.
I use a custom firmware myself but never felt the need to use any homebrew, i guess it's a matter of taste :)
