does JACK have to be running for rosegarden to work, because i have a problem with rosegarden and JACK but i was told rosegarden wont be able to do certain things without JACK but in this thread http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=711784
i explain the problems im having with JACK so do i have to have it for rosegarden to save etc, or can i do it without JACK?

You can certainly save a project you are working on without JACK running, you just won't be able to hear it! If you're just notating this is fine, but I have a feeling you want to play those notes back.

JACK is simply a way to route audio and MIDI signals in, out and around your computer. I'd recommend installing Patchage, which is a very intuitive software patch bay. Also you can check out this article that I wrote. It has some good info for people starting out with JACK, Rosegarden and some other programs. It's not exactly what you're looking for, but it should get you oriented to the roles of the programs you are trying to use.

yes but i can hear stuff in rosegarden wihtout jack but with jack i cant
