Kde or Gnome?

It really depends on your personal preference. I used to use KDE, then XFCE and finally came back to using gnome again, with a few favorites from Kubuntu and Xubuntu.

Thats the beauty of it all, you can try them all out and use what you like simply by installing the other desktop meta-packages.

There is no such thing as better, only personal taste. KDE focuses on being more windows like and having everything as configurable as possible. Gnome focuses on being intutive, easy to use, and looking good/consistent.

Gnome support around here is much better simply by virtue of that being what the vast majorty of people use. I used KDE for a number of years, it's powerful once you get it the way you want. Ultimately I succumb to vanity, gnome is easier to theme in some respects, gnome can be made to behave like KDE it just takes a bit of effort.

maybe not.

the next release will be released in april and is a long term support version. for gnome. this is because kubuntu is implementing kde4.

therefore i'd advise newcommers to use the gnome version to start with. although kde is much better of course ;-)

KDE is better than Gnome, which is better that XFCE, which is better that KDE.

No, seriously, it comes down to taste! I like KDE, but I recommend you try them all (at least KDE and Gnome).
