I just got a new Mac Pro Dual Quad Core Xeon. Yes, I realize that having this many processors/cores is somewhat overkill for what I am doing with Ubuntu. However, I have a triple booting machine (OS X, Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy, Windows Vista) and I run final cut pro and CAD. I have successfully installed all three OS's and everything is running pretty well so far. I have some questions about runniing Ubuntu on this machine though.
1. I can only run Ubuntu in low graphics mode. How do I install the correct ATI HD driver? The card is an ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT. I would like to be able to get Compiz running. and take full advantage of the graphics card.
2. I want to make sure that the HDD and CPU thermals are being monitored and regulated properly. Is overheating a concern with running Ubuntu? How can I check the temperatures? What are reasonable temperatures for the hardware? I would hate to wreck such an expensive machine.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
