View Full Version : [SOLVED] LED or wired IR emitters on the Iguanaworks IR Transceiver

I'm planning on buying an Iguanaworks IR transceiver tomorrow. Right now, I'm only using analog cable plugged into a PVR 500 card so I don't currently need the IR transmitter capabilities, only the receiving. But, if Comcast forces me into digital cable next year, who knows what I'll be doing?

Here's the IR transceiver I'm buying:

I'm looking for suggestions for the probable case, that in the future, I'll be wanting to use the Iguanaworks IR transceiver to control a STB.

It looks like the basic thing to decide is if I want LED's fixed on the transceiver for IR emitting. Or, if I want jacks on the transceiver I can plug in some optional wired transmitter. Obviously, the wired emitters can be moved around more and shoved closer to the IR receiver on any STB I may have. But, maybe you don't usually need this flexibility, and the wires just get in the way so you're better off just getting LED's fixed on the side of the transceiver?

If anybody has a good feel for what to do for the general case here, I'd love to hear it.

Well, I emailed Iguanaworks. They recommended to get a hybrid one. E.g., a transceiver with one LED and one jack for a wired emitter. Then, as an option to buy one wired emitter... It doesn't increase shipping costs to buy a wired emitter...

It sounded weird at first, but I think that's what I'm gonna do.
