My desktop at 1920x1080 looks great, but everything is too small. What is the best way to increase the fonts, window sizes, etc while still outputting at the TV's native resolution?

the font settings are in frontend setup, under "Appearance". the relevant pages you want are explained here:
general page:
http://mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/User_Manual:Detailed_configuration_Frontend
specifically:

in the system menu there is a submenu holding all the tools for settings, there is one holding appearance in its name (sorry i use a non-english desktop) that has a tab for font settings, if you check the button on the bottom right you can change the res of your fonts increasing that should help.

Sorry - I must be thick: I went to look at these pages but there appears to be no text on any of them? I thought maybe I needed to register first. I did that but still no text? Am I missing something (bit of a noob - sorry).

sorry about that... that wiki is tough to link.
http://mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/User_Manual
under "detailed configuration frontend "
sections 3.2.1 "Theme" and 3.2.4 "Qt"

I have tried changing the small, medium, and large font settings in appearance. I have only noticed changes to the setup pages, not myth interface. Am I missing something?

Glad to know it is not just me! I did the same as you and it made not the slightest bit of difference.

Thanks, but I'm actually looking to change the font size, etc of the OS outside of MythTV MythTV itself looks fine.

most everything you will want will be under the following main (desktop) menu locations:
settings-->desktop settings
settings-->user interface settings
settings-->window manager settings
settings-->workspace settings
you just need to poke around the various menu and tabs. everything is there, just not in one convenient location.

None of those options are under the settings menu.

If you are using mythbuntu or XFCE:
exit out of mythtv
Go to applications>settings>user interface settings> you can click on the font, from there you can change the style and size.
Good luck!

None of those options are under the settings menu.
the settings menu of your DESKTOP- not mythtv.
if you don't have a settings menu on yer desktop after a standard mythbuntu install, then there are larger problems.

Understood...I'm talking about the desktop. When I right-click and bring up the menu, I have a Settings group, but it contains none of the items that you are mentioning. Yes, this is a fresh MythBuntu 8.04 A2 install.

ah... i haven't ran the alpha releases of 8.04 yet, so i'm not familiar with the menus, etc. the info i was
giving was accurate for 7.10
hopefully someone running the 8.04 alpha will see this and chime in.
