Can anyone help me figure out how to import all the information in my apple address book to my ubuntu thunderbird address book?

I've searched everywhere, tried converting in a bunch of different ways (export from apple address book never seems to work, though I CAN export to gmail) and am striking out.

If nothing else, is there a way to export a gmail address book to thunderbird's address book?

TIA

If nothing else, is there a way to export a gmail address book to thunderbird's address book?I believe that Thunderbird can handle vcard format (which the OS X Address Book uses) and can import a csv file that can be exported by gmail. I have used the method from gmail before, and unfortunately it is not automatic or anything. I had to match up the fields in thunderbird so that they would import correctly.
