also known as the Homeland Security Edition!
Dang, that's an....extensive list!
What happened to W & B ?
Releases started with Warty Warthog, then went to Hoary Hedgehog, and jumped to Breezy Badger and then to Dapper Drake.
This is about the most consistency I've seen yet in the naming scheme. While there are some on the list I'd rather not see as a release name (Modest Mouse? ugh), most are cute, effective, and easy-to-remember.
But I'm with Partisan on this, from now on I'm saying release numbers...

Hmm. An unsourced quote from Shuttleworth on a blog called "The Mental Proctologist," claiming that future Ubuntu releases will have incredibly outlandish code names. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say this is a joke.

The tag for it on the blog is, alongside "Ubuntu", "humour" - so you're probably right.

I'm sure it is a joke...but some of those names are pretty good. I would love to tell everyone that I am running Petulant Porcupine. :)

A proctologist, more often referred to as a colorectal surgeon, is a medical professional who specializes in diseases of the colon, rectum, and anus (http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-a-proctologist.htm). The word is a compound of two Greek words, proktos, for behind or rear quarters, and logy, for study.

Me too, but at the same time, I think Ubuntu would sound a bit odd being called something Like:
Ubuntu 24.04 LTS
How many other Apps/Systems do you know like that?
Never mind, I'm sure I'll have changed my mind by then

Just for fun, the other day thought these sounded cool:
Lucid Lynx
Modest Mouse
Nerdy Narwhal
Ostentatious Ostrich
Pesky Panda
Quivery Quail
Rocky Raccoon
Stinky Skunk
Trendy Toad
Unique Unicorn
Veracious Viper
Wobbly Whale
Xenophobic Xerus
Youthful Yak
Zealous Zebra
I wonder what the codename policy will be after April 2017.

Aa. So, Aaronic Aardvark.
Err, then at B we realize the hopelessness of that idea and start using minerals or something :)
