View Full Version : [SOLVED] Installing a Bible program

Hi, coming from XP I've got an extensive Christian/Jewish Theological library in the form of Libronix, which is now running on VMware as I've dispensed with Windows. For taking with me on a daily basis I have eSword on a USB which I can use on Windows wherever I am. I've tried installing the Bible apps in Ubuntu, but I don't know if I'm expecting too much or missing something! They seem to be very limited. I was hoping that the Sword Project, or GnomeSword, or something similar would have a selection of translations, commentaries, dictionaries, lexicons devotions etc. but if they do I don't know how to get it all running together. Using GnomeSword I have a very limited package and can't see how to extend this. Is it limited? Do I need to install other stuff? Or (sorry I ask this) would it be better to install a virtual machine and run eSword (a Windows program)? I would prefer to use opensource software as the virtual machines take a while to "fire" up. Would you be so kind as to treat me as though I know nothing and go through the steps, please? Thanking you in advance.

Gnome Sword can be extended through Edit > Module Manager

Sam Lars, thanks for your advice. I'd already ascertained that was how one did it, but that was where I was struggling. I've installed/removed GnomeSword about four times and each time was unable to access the add modules interface. I don't know what I've done, but it works great now! And no, I'm not missing something: it's very comprehensive isn't it? Although these are books that are in the public domain - and therefore not necessarily of a scholarly nature - I appreciate the work, effort and commitment that has gone into this project. God bless the programmers! Thank you, once again.:)
