hi everyone,
maybe this has been answered somewhere else but it seems I can't read a dvd on my macbook because it's zone 1. Now I haven't had the opportunity to play a lot of dvds but this wasn't a problem on my toshiba laptop on linux.
So I'm thinking is there a way to remove the zone check on the macbook dvd player? My mac book is the version previous to SantaRosa. I found regionset but it says it'll only work 4 times.
Thanks for any help given.

Thanksyes, all DVD drives are setup like yours. You can change the region 5 times, then they are locked. Flash some region-free firmware and get rid of the problem. You can also rip your DVD removing the Region lock, and burn a backup that will play wherever.

alright, any link towards a region-free firmware ? I don't really wanna rip all my zone 1 dvds to read them (I have a lot of them). Thanks for the help.

um, check the link that handy posted. That looks like the best collection of info I have seen for Macs. It depends on which drive you have... I actually haven't done this on a Mac myself, but I have done it to multiple drives in windows.

I haven't done my Mac either, due to the DVD drive vibrating sometimes when it is playing a movie. If I go warranty I am best to not have changed the firmware in case they notice. I have done quite a few non-mac drives & it works great. VLC is a good partner to the deal as well.
