i dont care what kind of file it turns into but i prefer mp3 but weird formats work too

i wanted to make custom startup tracks for ubuntu and simply jam out

but there are so many and ... time isnt with me any more

im also hoping to make a guitar hero style game but using any music and a real guitar but thats help u guys may not want to give tho

i have everything i could imagine i would need
guitar, cord, adapter, linux and a forum to ask questions

Audacity - that is your answer. It is close or i can say equivalent to Sound Forge (sony) for windows.

This is a program for real-time sound effect processing. You can use it to add some distortion to your guitar, or some reverb to your voice. Available effects are:

* 2 kinds of distortion (one is Ibanez TubeScreamer 9 simulation)
* sustain
* various flavors of reverb, echo & delay
* chorus/flanger
* equalizer
* noise reduction
* wah-wah
* phasor
* tremolo
* vibrato
