Black screen after installing 7.10

Hi all, I have had 7.04 running on my G4/733 with no problem at all. Now I did a clean install of 7.10 , installation was no problem but now when I reboot and type l for Linux I just get a black screen and it stays black. what can I do about that ?

Have you tried using

video=ofonly

at the next boot: prompt (If it times out too quickly, just hit TAB and it will patiently wait)
