hello, i have a built in webcam in my laptop. So I'd like to turn on the "monitor" program when the screen saver comes on. Is it possible to start a process with the screen saver?

basically the idea is that if I step away, and somebody will try to grab my laptop, i'd know who grabbed it. Monitor will upload snapshots at regular intervals to an off-sight server when it detects/sees motion.

I know this is not the *best* precaution to laptop theft, I do have the laptop lock, and make backups regularly in case of actual laptop theft, but thought it's a good idea...

It is possible when your system is connected with home based security
system. whenever anyone try to steal your system, security system catch the pic and store.
It can be possible.

Google for "linux webcam motion capture". There are many ways to do what you want.

The screen saver is probably xscreensaver. It has one helluvalot of options and a very tiresome manual. It can probably launch a program for you when it turns on.
