Problems with Half Life 2

Hi there,

i bought HL @ because on the Wine home page it gives it platinium, meaning it should just run fine. Now, after quite some time I got Steam running, the Tahoma font installed, so i can actually see the writing in Steam, HL 2 installed. When i launch HL 2 from Steam it say "starting up" changes the screen resolution, then just shuts down without changing the resolution back.

I read threads and all that but i don't know how to get any further?

Anybody with experience and some tips?

PlayOnLinux installed Steam perfectly for me. Got Halflife2 up and running! PlayOnLinux uses wine and scripts people wrote to properly install certain games and applications.

Are you using the latest version of Wine?

Have you tried launching Half Life 2 in Windows 98 compatibility mode (using winecfg to set Windows 98 mode for "hl2.exe")?

Have you tried setting -dxlevel 81 in the Launch Options for Half-Life 2 in Steam?
