View Full Version : Cannot mount External USB Hard Drive

When connecting USB External Hard Drive the following error is displayed:

[694384.650661] usb 5-6: device descriptor read/64, error -71
[694384.880437] usb 5-6: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 51
[694385.300030] usb 5-6: device not accepting address 51, error -71
[694385.419916] usb 5-6: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 52
[694385.839508] usb 5-6: device not accepting address 52, error -71

Please note that I do not have any problem mounting Flash Disk.

Any assistance in this regard will be greatly appreciated as I am unable to make backups.

When I used another Enclosure with the same Hard Drive I did not get the same error message :confused:. I will just assume that this is due to some hardware incompatibility issue :-?

Quite possibly, yes. Certainly a Google search reveals a few instances of hardware-related issues.

Did you try the suggestion from that thread? No joy?

It might be helpful if we had more information about the enclosure (vendor/model etc) and the drive. Any information you can provide would let us help you more.
